Essentials

4.0 Schools is excited to announce our fall 2011 Essentials series!

Essentials is for curious and thoughtful people interested in a rigorous dialogue about our schools’ toughest challenges, and a problem-solving mindset that they can take back to their organization. Successful applicants are welcome at any/all Essentials events. A short application process starts at the bottom of this page.

October 28-29, 2011: Problem Solving as Leadership, part I: Empathy
4.0 Ed Design Lab, New Orleans

How well do education reformers truly listen to the communities within which the work?’ Participants will explore empathetic practices used by other industries (i.e. design, architecture, improv comedy) and consider how to apply those lessons to meet communities’ toughest education challenges.

November 11-12, 2011: Problem Solving as Leadership, part II: Unbundling
4.0 Ed Design Lab, New Orleans

Getting different outcomes from a broken education system requires leaders to stop treating symptoms and to start thoughtfully breaking the system into its component parts to address root causes. Participants will practice 4.0’s favorite strategies for unbundling tough challenges!

December 17, 2011: Problem Solving as Leadership, part III: Prototyping
4.0 Ed Design Lab, New Orleans

4.0 believes innovation is a result of a culture that encourages leaders to make little bets on new ideas. All attendees will produce a prototype that impacts the important and widely reported education movement in New Orleans.

December 17-21, 2011: Winter Essentials
4.0 Ed Design Lab, New Orleans

A four day Essentials ‘201’ experience at the start of holiday break! Participants will practice a new mindset for solving the region’s toughest education challenges, learning from educators, improv comedians, New Orleans entrepreneurs, restaurateurs, and software developers.
